In first year Painting, we had a project where we had to adopt the style of an artist you admired at the time and incorporate yourself in on of their self portraits. I chose the Polish Art Deco star, Tamara de Lempicka. In this 1929 iconic work "Auto-Portrait (Tamara in the Green Bugatti)", I chose to put myself in the back seat. :)
It's described that she is free and strong and independantly portrayed in this self portrait. However, somehow I managed to duplicate her with a new set of eyes that seem to give them a rather sneaky, sensual yet dangerous quality. As if we were in on a heist together. I guess I might have been reading too much Agatha Christie, or watching too much Film noir at the time... (you can never get enough!).
