New commissioned work

Inspired by my commute to work, I used found materials and found experiences to make this collage. Standing at 6 feet tall, this is the biggest canvas I've worked on so far. Referencing the present and past landscape of the area linking West Chinatown, Crosstown and Gastown this piece discusses the similarities of a city's linkages and mysteries to those within the human body. Our bodies influence the landscape, and the landscape can influence our bodies. This piece now hangs proudly in the forward-thinking space of Gastown Physio & Pilates ( http://gastownphysiopilates.com/ )

Raval

This was a movement study I did from my bedroom window, while living in Barcelona in 2009. I'd like to think of this one as a portrait of my little neighbors having a birthday party.

Another study of the MACBA

Once again, the skaters and the energy they create in the open space surrounding Barcelona's MACBA inspired another piece.

"The first woman artist to become a glamour star"

35" X 42", Acrilic, 2006.
In first year Painting, we had a project where we had to adopt the style of an artist you admired at the time and incorporate yourself in on of their self portraits. I chose the Polish Art Deco star, Tamara de Lempicka. In this 1929 iconic work "Auto-Portrait (Tamara in the Green Bugatti)", I chose to put myself in the back seat. :)
It's described that she is free and strong and independantly portrayed in this self portrait. However, somehow I managed to duplicate her with a new set of eyes that seem to give them a rather sneaky, sensual yet dangerous quality. As if we were in on a heist together. I guess I might have been reading too much Agatha Christie, or watching too much Film noir at the time... (you can never get enough!).
